Place des Vosges Drawing

$450.00

Place des Vosges
Charcoal and ink wash on paper
40 × 30 cm
2025
$450

Drawn on location in the early morning, this piece holds the stillness of Place des Vosges before the day fully gathers. The fountain sits at the center like a quiet anchor, surrounded by the softened geometry of the square’s historic facades and trees just beginning to wake.

The charcoal lines establish the structure, while the ink wash moves more freely, allowing the scene to breathe and dissolve at the edges. Forms appear and recede, much like memory or passing weather.

There is a sense of economy here, both in mark-making and in mood. Nothing is overworked. The image arrives with restraint, carrying the clarity of direct observation alongside the subtle distortion that comes from being fully present in a fleeting moment.

Created during a period of personal narrowing and reflection, the drawing holds that atmosphere without needing to name it. It simply offers the space as it was encountered: quiet, balanced, and quietly alive.
